Fire risk assessments

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person for any non-domestic premises must carry out and regularly review a fire risk assessment. We carry out thorough, independent assessments that identify hazards, evaluate risks and set out clear, practical recommendations proportionate to your building and its use. We do not produce generic reports, we assess your building and give you advice that is specific to it.

Retrospective fire strategies

Many buildings in use today were designed and constructed without a fire strategy, or have changed significantly since their original strategy was written. Without a clear record of how fire safety was considered in the design, building owners can find it difficult to make informed decisions about future works, changes of use or ongoing fire safety management.

We produce retrospective fire strategies that document how an existing building addresses fire safety requirements, giving you a clear, evidenced picture of your building and a solid basis for future decision making.

Our approach is practical and risk based. The goal is to give you an accurate understanding of your building so that any decisions you make going forward are grounded in reality rather than assumption.

Fire safety management plans

A Fire Safety Management Plan documents the arrangements in place to manage fire safety in an occupied building. It covers the organisational responsibilities, procedures and controls that ensure fire safety standards are maintained day to day.

We develop plans that are genuinely useful to the people responsible for implementing them which are written clearly, tailored to how your building actually operates and structured so that the people using them can follow them without needing to be fire safety experts themselves.

Building Safety Act Gateway support

The Building Safety Act 2022 introduced a new regulatory framework for higher-risk buildings, with three Gateway points where fire safety must be demonstrated before a project can progress.

At Gateway 1 we prepare the Fire Statement required as part of a planning application for higher-risk buildings. For projects in London we also prepare the fire safety section of the Design and Access Statement to address the requirements of London Plan Policy D12.

At Gateway 2 we develop the fire strategy documentation needed before construction can begin. We work as part of your design team from an early stage, helping to make sure fire safety is properly integrated into the design before it causes problems further down the line.

Fire safety for specialist and complex environments

Some buildings and sites present fire safety challenges that go beyond standard approaches, requiring a more considered and tailored response. We have experience across a range of specialist environments including heritage and listed buildings, defence establishments and energy storage facilities such as Battery Energy Storage Systems.
